Magnitude 5+ Earthquakes - Global


6.9 Earthquake hits Hokkaido, Japan.


Ten people suffered minor injuries due to falling objects, broken glass and other incidents, but authorities said no serious damage was reported and the quake did not generate a tsunami. The shaking lasted about a minute. Bottles smashed to the ground in supermarkets, some areas had power blackouts and a number of highways were closed. Trains were stopped on rural tracks as a precaution. No damage to several nuclear facilities in the region was reported.


5.5 Aftershock hits southeast of Honshu, Japan.


6.0, 5.2 and four 5.1 Earthquakes hit the Santa Cruz Islands.


5.4 and 5.0 Earthquakes hit New Britain, Papua New Guinea.
