Roundup of Global Volcanic Activity

Santa María / Santiaguito (Guatemala): Following the partial collapse of the upper part of the Caliente lava dome on 9 May, the activity of Santiaguito has remained relatively low. It consisted mainly in degassing, sometimes interrupted by weak to moderate explosions, and continuing rockfalls in the upper part of the dome.

Fuego (Guatemala): Activity has remained elevated but with a decreasing trend. INSIVUMEH reports weak to moderate strombolian explosions that eject incandescent material to up to 100 m above the crater and produces ash plumes of aup to 500 m height. The lava flow towards the Barranca Taniluyá was reduced to a length of 150 meters. Heavy rainfall generated lahars channeled into the river beds of Las Lajas and El Jute, carrying volcanic material and blocks of different sizes.
