Volcanos

Roundup of Global Volcanic Activity

Ijen (East Java, Indonesia): Impressions from our last expedition, which included a night-time visit at Ijen volcano to see the famous blue flames.

Kilauea (Hawai'i): HVO reported that the active branch of the June 27th lava flow remains very active and advanced at an average of 285 meters per day. It is now only about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) from the Pahoa Marketplace, located near the intersection of Highway 130 and Pāhoa Village Road.

Popocatépetl (Central Mexico): No significant changes in activity have occurred recently. The volcano has occasional small explosions producing steam and ash plumes, and lava continues to arrive and slowly fill the inner summit crater, resulting in glow visible at night.
