Puffer Fish Poisoning – Philippines

Officials in the Tabango municipality in northern Leyte in the Philippines are reporting at least three deaths due to puffer fish poisoning, or butete as it is known in the province. In addition to the fatalities, four others were also hospitalized with the food poisoning.

Bird Flu – Japan

Japan reports another wave of bird flu outbreak, this time in the prefecture of Gifu, as state officials have reported it coming from a chicken farm in the city of Minokamo. Polymerase chain reaction tests conducted later detected an H5 subtype virus from all samples collected from chickens at the farm. More than 68,000 chickens at the Minokamo chicken farm are needed to be culled, as local authorities are putting a 3-kilometer radius around the farm to observe the outbreak. Farms within the area are told not to move their poultry and its eggs.

Bird Flu – Denmark

Local authorities in the municipality of Vibord in Denmark have decided to cull nearly 9,000 poultry after a farm in the Lovel village found that it is dealing with a strain of bird flu.

Diarrhoea – Philippines

Occidental province in the Mindanao part of the Philippines has recorded a diarrhea outbreak in Barangay Butuan in the Municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Mayor Jason John Joyce reported. The outbreak has left 1 dead and 33 others hospitalized in the town’s district hospital.
