Wildfires

Oregon, USA - Several new small wildfires broke out across Central Oregon on Saturday, a day ahead of another red flag warning for a renewed threat of thunderstorms that could ignite new blazes.

Canada, British Columbia - A provincewide heat wave in British Columbia was expected to hit record highs in the coming days, heightening concerns about wildfires. The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch said Saturday there were 45 wildfires across the province, with three fires expected to take days to put out.

Greece - Authorities say a raging wildfire southeast of Greece's capital has burned down at least one house and threatened several others. The fire broke out early Saturday afternoon in a forested area in the hills west of Keratea, 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Athens, and has spread quickly, despite the efforts of more than 150 firefighters. Four planes and three helicopters also assisted before nightfall.
