Wildfires

Wildfires - USA

Oregon - By Saturday night, the South Fork Complex fire had covered 62,000 acres of national forest and private ranchland. The fire started July 31 by lightning and is now Oregon's largest uncontained fire. With thunderstorms forecast in coming days, fire commanders worried that 30- to 40-mille-an-hour winds would push the fire where they don't want it to go – towards the small community of Dayville.

Ranches and homes north of the fire, along U.S. 26 east of Dayville, have been under alert to be ready to evacuate. On the south edge of the fire, residents at the scattered ranches also remain under such an alert.

Wildfires - Canada

A contingent of 81 Austalian firefighters have flown to Canada to help tackle the numerous large wildfires that have been burning for weeks.

Forest fires in British Columbia have destroyed close to 200,000 hectares of land this season which is the largest area of land burnt in the province since the 1950s.
