Monkeypox – DR Congo
Through the first nearly 10 months of 2020, health officials have reported 6,231 suspected and confirmed monkeypox cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Cases have been reported in 127 health zones from 17 out of 26 provinces in the country. In addition, the death toll due to monkeypox has topped 200–203 reported year to date.
HIV – Philippines
The Philippines has one of the fastest-growing HIV epidemics in the world and country public health officials say that 21 new HIV cases are diagnosed every day.
Acute hepatitis E – Burkina Faso
Between 8 September and 24 November, 2020, the North-Central region of Burkina Faso reported a cumulative total of 442 cases of febrile jaundice. The vast majority of cases (87.5%) were reported from Barsalogho health district with 387 cases and 16 deaths, representing a case-fatality rate of 4.1% (see Figure 1 and 2). A total of 15 out of 16 deaths were reported in pregnant or postpartum women.
