Spain - Strong winds and snow storms across Spain have claimed the lives of at least two female hikers. The two women were found late Sunday in the Tinenca de Benifassa mountain area. The two women along with a man had gone missing on Saturday. A search helicopter rescued the man. The heavy storm left more than 10,000 homes without power in Aragón and Navarra.

Jakarta - Flash flooding in Greater Jakarta has claimed life of a toddler and caused evacuation of hundreds of residents.

Idaho, USA - Snow in eastern Idaho buried three children underneath, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old child Friday night. The disaster occurred in the Mack's Inn area.

Italy - Heavy storms have claimed lives of at least five people in the Italian peninsula. Italy's Civil Protection authority has issued further storm warnings across South Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli–Venezia Giulia, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Sardinia, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo and Molise.

Idaho, USA - About 250 people have been trapped in a massive landslide in the small remote town of Elk City in Idaho County in the United States. The landslide is about 40 feet deep and is blocking approximately 500 feet of the highway.

Fiji - Fiji began a massive clean-up on Sunday after the most powerful cyclone in the Pacific island nation's history left a trail of destruction, killing at least five persons and crippling vital infrastructure. The category five super-storm lashed the popular tourist destination overnight Saturday, packing wind gusts approaching 300 kilometres (185 miles) per hour, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre.

Malaysia - Continuous heavy rain in southern Sarawak since Thursday night has left many areas flooded and triggered at least three landslides. The number of flood victims housed at relief centres in the Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisons have increased to 2,869 people from 486 last night due to intermittent heavy rain in several places since yesterday.

Hundreds of Wyoming residents were forced to flee a wind-driven wildfire that destroyed at least 10 homes even as a separate blaze in neighbouring Idaho burned several cabins to the ground and prompted dozens to evacuate, fire managers said Monday.

The fire that broke out Saturday evening in a brush pile at a landfill north of Wyoming’s second-largest city of Casper has charred 10,000 acres of grasslands and trees and led to the evacuation of more than 300 residents, said Bob Fawcett, fire marshal with the Natrona County Fire Protection District.

At least 10 houses and an unknown number of outbuildings have been lost to a blaze fed by winds that gusted up to 60 miles an hour over the weekend amid bone-dry conditions, he said.

That fire and a blaze in southwest Idaho that has destroyed three cabins and forced about 80 people from their homes since igniting Saturday near the small mountain town of Idaho City have come at a time the fire season in the northern Rockies is usually drawing to a close, officials said.

Bluetongue claims about 1,000 Idaho whitetails

Officials in Eastern Washington, Idaho and northeastern Oregon said they were unprepared to make estimates on the toll the continuing bluetongue outbreak plaguing deer in the region was taking on big game. Washington officials still aren't attempting to take a stab at numbers other than saying it's the most widespread bluetongue outbreak they've documented.

Based on continuing reports of dead deer, Fish and Game officials estimate up to 1,000 whitetails have died from an outbreak of bluetongue, a virus transmitted by gnats that is similar to Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in Idaho alone. It is difficult to get the exact number of diseased or dead animals, but the outbreak is not expected to significantly reduce whitetail populations.

The Clearwater area had a large-scale outbreak of EHD in 2003, and Fish and Game officials estimated up to 10,000 whitetails died. There were smaller local EHD outbreaks in the last five years.

Wildfire season accelerated in Idaho on Thursday as evacuations were ordered in the northern part of the state and a massive fire straddling the Idaho-Oregon border grew to 340 square miles.

In southwest Idaho, giant swaths of grassland and sagebrush were consumed by the giant blaze that has intermittently closed U.S. Highway 95, which was reopened Thursday. Winds and temperatures around 100 degrees were expected.

In central Idaho, crews were fighting a 500-acre fire burning in heavy timber about 13 miles north of Crouch.

Firefighters continue battle against the E. Washington wildfires, USA. More than 240 wildfires are now burning in Washington. The Yakima complex fire is burning at about 6,000 acres, and Kittitas was at 3,500 on the last update. Officials are now calling in Canadian fire crews to assist with Washington and Oregon fire fighting. About 3,500 crews from both states are fighting five large fires in Washington.

The Sheep fire burning seven miles north of Riggins, Idaho, is 24 percent contained and had burned a total of 29,171 acres.
