Storms

Tornado hits north Cotabata in the Philippines, destroying local crops, mainly bananas.

Tropical Storm Debby not only washed away large areas of beach in Florida over the past week, but the pounding waves also destroyed scores of sea turtle nests in what was a record nesting season. Researchers are hopeful that many of the nests survived although most of the nest markers have been washed away.

Tropical Storms

Tropical Storm Debby forms in the Gulf of Mexico. Louisiana warning issued. Some US Gulf oil output suspended as oil rigs are evacuated.

This is the first time that four tropical storms have been recorded before July 1 since records began in 1851.
