Indonesia - A landslide struck a hotel in the Cianjur district in West Java, Indonesia claiming the lives of three people and injuring several others. Earlier, landslide in Sukaremi sub-district of Cianjur killed two people, bringing the death toll to five.

UAE - Heavy rainfall lashed most areas of the UAE on Wednesday causing severe flooding in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Dubai Police has recorded at least 253 traffic accidents and received 3,200 calls in a span of seven hours from 6 am to 1 pm. Floods in Hatta swept away a car, claiming life of a 7-year-old boy. His other two brothers managed to escape. Flights at Abu Dhabi airport were suspended for several hours on Wednesday. A hailstorm also lashed Abu Dhabi. Schools have been closed since Wednesday. Heavy rain associated with thunder and strong winds swept across Jebel Ali, Fujairah, Sharjah and Al Ain. The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology recorded 294 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday near Al-Ain.

USA - Heavy rains slammed parts of the Southeast for a second straight day Thursday, part of a series of storms that has killed four people, flooded homes and wrecked highways. Flash-flood watches were in effect from eastern Texas through Louisiana and up into the Mississippi River Valley -- including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and southern Illinois. Some bayous and creeks near Shreveport are expected to crest at levels not seen since 1991. In Mississippi, officials warned of flash flooding. Gov. Phil Bryant declared a state of emergency.

Cliffs have collapsed in New Zealand during an earthquake in the city of Christchurch on the South Island. Beaches to the east of Christchurch were busy with swimmers and surfers when rocks began to fall into the sea. No serious damage or fatalities were reported in the Valentine's Day quake that struck at 13:13 local time (00.13 GMT).

Tropical cyclone (tc) 10s (Daya), located approximately 508 nm south of St Denis, La Reunion, is tracking southeastward at 16 knots.

Tropical cyclone 11p (Winston), located approximately 388 nm west of Suva, Fiji, is tracking southward at 06 knots. Fiji Meteorological Service has issued flood warning for all low lying areas along Rakiraki river including Rakiraki town. Several roads and bridges in the Western Division have been closed because of flooding triggered by heavy rain experienced over the past 24 hours. At least 19 roads and bridges in Rakiraki, Tavua, Sigatoka and Ba are flooded.

Tropical cyclone 12p (Tatiana), located approximately 428 nm west-northwest of Noumea, New Caledonia, is tracking southeastward at 08 knots.

Indonesia - Flooding in Aceh Province in Indonesia has caused the evacuation of 7,597 people in five districts. A heavy downpour for a week has caused the overflow of Kreung Peuto, Kreung Pirak and Kreung Arakundo rivers. At least 24 villages have been submerged in the five districts of Aceh.

California, USA - California was battered by winds as high as 115mph: At least one person was killed and thousands were left without electricity as a powerful storm prompts warnings of flash floods and mudslides. The heavy rain brought traffic to a near-standstill on LA freeways and forecasters said tornadoes were possible.

Australia - In Western Australia, Tropical Cyclone Stan brought strong winds and heavy rain to the Pilbara, while a weak monsoon has arrived in the Top End. Stan has since dissipated over land. Meanwhile, a man was killed near Bundaberg in southern Queensland after his car was washed away by floodwaters, just moments after he let his brother out to check on water levels. In south-east NSW, destructive winds during thunderstorms destroyed several homes at Forbes Creek, about an hour east of Canberra.

Indonesia - Flash flood in Situbondo district, East Java destroyed houses Sunday morning after Silowogo river overflew following the heavy rain. The flash flood affected at least 28 houses in Silowogo, 15 houses in Sumberanayar and 100 houses in Melandingam Wetan village in the Bungatan district. Heavy rain also caused landslides in several areas in Agam District, West Sumatra.
