Fracking operation closed indefinitely after earthquake
A hydraulic fracturing operation near Fox Creek, Alberta, Canada, has been shut down after an earthquake hit the area Tuesday.
The magnitude 4.8 quake was reported at 11:27 a.m., says Alberta Energy Regulator, which ordered the shutdown of the Repsol Oil and Gas site 35 kilometres north of Fox Creek.
The energy regulator automatically shuts down a fracking site when an earthquake hits a magnitude of 4.0 or higher in the area in which a company is operating.
The quake was "quite large for the area, larger than normal”, according to the regulator.

Shockwaves were felt in northern India and in Pakistan's capital, where hundreds of people ran out of buildings as the ground rolled beneath them. The quake was 213km deep and centred 254km north-east of Kabul in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

Afghanistan - Flash flood in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan has claimed the life of one person and damaged more than 80 houses.
Venezuela - Flood waters up to 10 feet high have receded to at least three feet in the town of Guasdualito, Venezuela, allowing for recovery and aid efforts to help about 9,000 affected families. There is no potable water or electricity and means of communication and access to food is limited in Guasdualito. The town in Venezuela's Apure state has been under state of emergency because of heavy rainfall last week that resulted in floods. Tropical Cyclone Mahasen is gathering strength over the Indian Ocean's Bay of Bengal, and is a potential major threat to Bangladesh and Myanmar. The storm is forecast to intensify as a severe cyclonic storm and even further as a very severe cyclonic storm by Monday. It would continue to advance closer to Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast until it gets stopped mid-sea by a western disturbance moving across North-west and East India. Mahasen would be forced to re-curve, turning almost 90 degrees to east-northeast and head towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast.

Recent floods in southeast Khost province in Afghanistan have claimed the lives of two people. The floods have also damaged thousands of acres of farmland in the Gurbaz, Tanai, Ismailkhel and Zazai Maidan districts of Afghanistan.
