Egypt - Flash floods have claimed lives of at least twelve people in Beheira and Alexandria areas in Egypt on Wednesday. High winds and heavy rains have injured at least 19 people in Wadi El-Natroun and Beheira. The civil defence forces have evacuated around 100 people from Affona after their building collapsed due to the floods.

South Africa - A lightning storm in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa has claimed the lives of two women.

Middle East - Stormy weather in Israel has claimed the life of one person and left thousands without power. A 20-year old worker died in Pardes Hanna when a wall collapsed at a construction site because of the strong winds. The Airport Authority briefly closed Sde Dov Airport in Tel Aviv due to the weather conditions. Similarly, severe weather in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria has claimed the lives of six people, including two children.

Texas, USA - Heavy rains fuelled by the meeting of two storm systems, one the remnants of Hurricane Patricia, pounded southeastern Texas, triggering flash floods in Houston.

Heatwave in Egypt

A scorching heatwave gripped Egypt this week, killing at least 42 people, officials said on Tuesday. Egyptian summers are usually hot, but this week's temperatures in the south soared to 44°C.

The Health Ministry said 21 people died from the heat on Sunday, when temperatures topped 40°C in the country's north. Nineteen more died on Monday, authorities said, mostly elderly citizens.

Tornado in Bangladesh

A tornado has claimed 20 lives in Bangladesh, injuring more than 500 others.

The tornado overturned a bus, damaged houses and buildings and uprooted trees and destroyed crops. Affected areas are Sadar, Bijoynagar and Akhaura Upazilas of Brahmanbaria districts.

Heavy snow and rainfall in England

The Met Office has issued amber warning for heavy rain in south-west England and snow in Wales and Northern Ireland.

There are currently 12 flood warnings in the South West of England.

A woman is said to be trapped in a landslide in Looe, Cornwall.

Sandstorms have shut four Seaports in Egypt. The Egypt Meteorological Authority (EMA) recorded wind speed at 35 km/hr.

Nine districts of Tak, Thailand have been declared as drought disaster zones.

Egypt Balloon Crash

Three Britons have died and another is in hospital after a hot air balloon crashed near the Egyptian city of Luxor.

Reports suggest 19 people were killed, with French, Hong Kong and Japanese nationals also among the dead.

The balloon was at 1,000 ft (300m) up when it exploded, caught fire and plunged on to agricultural fields west of Luxor, officials said.

This satellite image of the River Nile in Egypt taken at night shows the extent of human settlement along the life-giving river, with very little settlement away from the water, with further strong areas of brightness around Cairo, along the Suez Canal and Tel Aviv.

Transportation

A train collided with a school bus in southern Egypt. So far, there have been 47 people (mostly children) killed and 13 others injured.
