Global Warming

Climate change is forcing seals to dive deeper to find adequate food supplies. The warmer seas mean that the cooler waters which are home to the traditional fish supplies on which the seal populations feed are found deeper. This means that the seals will have shorter periods to feed and may ultimately see a decline in overall seal numbers.

Scientists report a substantial increase in jellyfish numbers in coastal areas adjacent to human populations. The jellyfish are clogging water intakes at nuclear power stations, fouling fisherman's nets and stinging swimmers.

Two wet seasons in eastern Australia have caused a plague of rabbits to emerge. The wild rodents are decimating the grazing and making survival for indigenous species and livestock farmers even more difficult.
