Volcanos

Roundup of Global Volcanic Activity:

Stromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): Activity remains characterized by the magma column standing very high inside the craters. Small lava overflows and strong explosions can be seen on the webcams.

Torfajökull (Iceland): (17 Feb) A small earthquake swarm has started today. It includes about 20 quakes of small magnitude at shallow depths of 2-4 km. Whether the swarm is related to magma movements is unknown.

Little Sitkin (Western Aleutian Islands): (17 Feb) An earthquake swarm occurred yesterday, but it's not strong enough to trigger a raise of alert level.

Fuego (Guatemala): A phase of strong activity took place at the volcano between the evening of 16 Feb and and yesterday. Increased lava effusion led to the rapid advance of the active lava flow on the steep upper southern slope. The flow produced many incandescent avalanches that turned into pyroclastic flows that produced ash plumes rising about 3,000 m and drifting 10 km to the west, the latest special bulletin of INSIVUMEH reports.
