Wildfires

Wildfires - Cape Town, South Africa

A raging fire in Cape Town has moved to Chapman’s Peak Drive where several bungalows at a luxury lodge are burning, the City of Cape Town said on Monday.

The fire started on Boyes Drive in Muizenberg, spreading to Ou Kaapse Weg, and reaching Noordhoek in the early hours of Monday morning. Five homes on Silvermine Road in Noordhoek were destroyed.

There are about 97 firefighters on scene, along with 28 fire engines and an additional 18 support vehicles. Four helicopters are doing water-bombing. Several volunteer fire-fighters were also on scene helping to control the blaze.

At least one fire-fighter sustained burn wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
