Volcanos

Roundup of Global Volcanic Activity

Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): The volcano has been very calm recently. After 2 weeks with no recorded explosions, a few relatively small ones occurred yesterday and today, producing ash plumes that rose to 7-8,000 ft (2-2.5 km) altitude.

Kerinci (Sumatra): A small eruption was seen from the volcano this morning at 07:44 local time. An ash plume from an explosion at the summit of Indonesia's highest active volcano rose approx. 400 m from the summit crater.

Turrialba (Costa Rica): Following a 4 days pause in activity, new ash emissions have been occurring from the volcano again since yesterday. Activity seems to have restarted gradually on Wednesday and became more intense yesterday morning, when a plume rising up to approx. 2000 m could be observed during clear weather. Small ash falls were noted in downwind areas.

Zavodovski (South Sandwich Islands (UK)): Satellite images show Mount Curry volcano on Zavodovski Island has been emitting a significant gas plume.

Michael (United Kingdom, South Sandwich Is): At least some intermittent mild eruptive activity might be continuing at the volcano. On a recent satellite image, a weak dark line possibly indicating an ash plume can be seen.
