Storms and Floods

Tropical Storms - Roundup of Tropical Storms:

In the South Indian Ocean: Tropical Cyclone "Carlos" (04S) continued moving west south-west over the south-west Indian Ocean, slightly weakening, but remaining a Tropical Storm. Its centre is located approximately 300 km south south-west of the south-western coast of La Reunion (France). Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to continue moving south-west, strengthening. Local media reported at least 4 000 people left without power, several flights cancelled and schools closed throughout La Reunion.

Singapore - Flash floods were reported in various parts of Singapore including the Orchard Road area as heavy rains hit the island on Wednesday (Feb 8) evening.

DR Congo - Two people died on Tuesday in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa after torrential rains caused flooding in some parts of the city. The city’s wet season normally runs from October to May, and it is mostly of the impoverished districts of the capital that are hardest hit by flooding as they sit near the Ndjili and Matete tributaries of the giant Congo River.
