In the Southern Hemisphere: Tropical cyclone (tc) 03s (Ava), located approximately 338 nm west-northwest of St Denis, Reunion, is tracking southwestward at 08 knots.

Eastern USA - One of the most furious winter storms ever measured on the East Coast unleashed blizzard-like conditions from Virginia to Maine Thursday, driving icy sea water into downtown Boston and coastal Massachusetts towns. The flooding caused extensive damage and forced evacuations around the region. Greater Boston and most of the rest of eastern Massachusetts are forecast to get buried under 12 to 18 inches of snow today, the National Weather Service is warning this morning, and near-hurricane force winds are expected to whip the Cape and Islands.
