Wildfires – Colorado, USA

Firefighters with air support were suppressing a lightning-sparked wildfire Sunday in southeastern Colorado that had burned more than 11,818 acres over the past four days.

Las Animas County and state authorities decided to suppress this Cherry Canyon fire, burning in canyon country near the Purgatoire River about 10 miles west of Kim, even though people and buildings weren’t threatened.

A separate fire of unknown origin was burning nearby about 120 acres northeast of the Cherry Canyon fire. Neither fire was controlled as of Sunday night.
