Venezuela – Flooding in western Venezuela has damaged homes and livelihoods of residents living close to the San Pedro River. Flooding struck in Tulio Febres Cordero municipality in the state of Mérida from late April 2021 after a period of heavy rain caused the San Pedro River to break its banks in the municipality. Local media reported that more than 100 buildings were damaged and around 400 families affected, mostly in the town of Palmarito.
Northern Sumatra, Indonesia – At least 5 people died and 8 are still missing after landslides hit the Batang Toru hydropower plant area in Marancar, South Tapanuli District, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia on 29 April 2021. The landslides were caused by heavy rainfall in the area. Two buildings and a vehicle were buried in the slide, with 12 people feared missing.
Rwanda – Heavy rain caused severe flash flooding in Gahunga, Burera District in the Northern Province of Rwanda on 27 April 2021. 1 person died in the floods, which destroyed 3 houses and damaged several others. Two bridges were also destroyed. Crops and livestock also suffered damage, including over 200 hectares of plantations of potatoes, maize, beans, pyrethrum, impacting livelihoods of local residents.
