Newcastle Disease in Israel

A new outbreak of Newcastle disease in Ashkelon in the southern region, Hadarom.

The outbreak, which started on 10 September, affected a flock of 17,000 six-and-a-half-week-old broilers, just before marketing. Around 2,000 of them showed symptoms, 600 died and 16,400 have been destroyed.

U.S. Cyclosporiasis outbreak up to 646 cases

The U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Tuesday that there were 646 total cases of cyclosporiasis as part of an outbreak occurring in 24 states.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite. The first two cases of the infection were confirmed on June 28 in Iowa. Since that time, 23 other states reported infections, with most of them occurring between mid-June and mid-July.
