Volcanos

Global Volcanic Activity

Paluweh (off Flores Island, Indonesia): The Indonesian Volcanological Survey (VSI) has lowered the status of the volcano from 3 to 2 (on a scale of 1-4), after no new significant activity has been detected at the volcano in recent months.

Seismicity also has decreased since the last week explosions and avalanches that were noticed from the new lava dome in last November.

Kilauea (Hawai'i): Kilauea eruption continued at the summit and within the East Rift Zone with no major changes over the past week. At the summit, the lava-lake level remained at about 43m (141ft) below the floor of the crater. On the East Rift Zone the NE spatter-cone complex continued to feed the Kahauale`a 2 lava flow at Pu`u `O`o, which continues to burn forests in the area (see photo, USGS). The rainy weather has cleared on Kilauea, making for excellent sunset viewings of the summit eruption!
