Wildfires

Wildfires - USA

Tinder-dry conditions and winds gusting in excess of 50 mph fueled dozens of wildfires across northern Minnesota, although things quieted down on the fire front in North Dakota a bit on Thursday.

Fire crews were still out Friday, mopping up the week’s second wildfire in the Custer National Forest area in northwest South Dakota, about 45 miles south of Bowman, N.D.

The Moonshine Fire started Wednesday and, by Friday, had burned through about 4,000 acres of public and private land in an area centred about 15 miles east of Buffalo, S.D.

Another fire that started west of Buffalo on Monday, dubbed the Sheep Draw fire, had burned through about 14,000 acres and was mostly contained by the time the Moonshine Fire took off.
