Present movement...NE or 45 degrees at 2 mph...4 km/h. Hazards affecting land - swells generated by Andres are affecting portions of the West Coast of the Baja California peninsula. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

Hurricane Blanca is located about 490 mi...790 km S of Manzanillo Mexico and about 830 mi...1330 km SSE of Cabo San Lucas Mexico with maximum sustained winds...125 mph...205 km/h. Present movement...SW or 215 degrees at 1 mph...2 km/h. Hazards affecting land - surf: swells generated by Blanca will begin affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

New Zealand - Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in Dunedin and caused power outages. The army was placed on standby in Mosgiel in case the Silver Stream burst its banks. Similarly, heavy rain has flooded the Auckland City Hospital and a number of houses around the city.

Georgia, Russia - A landslide in Georgia has claimed the life of a person and buried 500 sheep and 40 cows. The landslide hit Khone village, in Khevsureti region on Tuesday.

Kenya - More heavy rains caused flooding in Nairobi claiming the lives of three people including a 3-year-old boy on Tuesday night.

Ghana - Flooding in Ghana's capital swept stored fuel into a nearby fire, setting off a huge explosion at a gas station that killed 73 people and set alight neighbouring buildings. The blast took place as dozens of people sought shelter at the gas station and in nearby shops in central Accra to escape the torrential rains. The disaster raised anew concerns over the city's inadequate infrastructure.

China - Torrential rain has battered cities along the lower part of the Yangtze river, a day after a cyclone caused a ferry carrying 358 people to capsize. Experts estimated that 330 million tonnes of water fell within an hour in Nanjing City in Jiangsu province - the equivalent to about fifty large lakes. As much as 50 millimetres of rain fell every hour during the heaviest periods of rain over Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in the city of eight million. More than 9,000 residents in Leping City in Jiangxi province were forced to leave their homes on Wednesday, after heavy rainfall overnight left much of the city submerged under water. In Dexing City, as much as 250 millimetres of rain fell overnight in some parts leaving a motorway bridge partially flooded. On Tuesday morning more than 8,000 people were trapped by floods in neighbouring Hubei province. Rescue teams were dispatched on boats to evacuate the residents from their homes.
