Cholera - Nigeria

With the onset of the rains, there has been an increase in the number of Cholera cases reported in Nigeria in the last three weeks prompting the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to issue a public health advisory.

While endemic in Nigeria, there have been confirmed outbreaks of Cholera in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Plateau, Yobe, Nasarawa, Anambra and Zamfara States. An ongoing strike action by some health workers in the country is affecting the provision of care in health facilities in many States.

Ebola - DR Congo

The French news agency AFP is reporting five new suspected cases of the deadly Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. AFP reported Saturday that DRC health authorities had recorded two new cases of illness in the Wangata area and three new cases in Bikoro. Both areas are in the northwest Equateur province.
