Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever - Iran
Iranian health authorities have reported twelve Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) since Mar. 21, according to a Tehran Times report. Of this total, two people have died.
Hepatitis A - Arizona, USA
Arizona state health officials report 353 hepatitis A outbreak cases since November 2018. May 2019 was the hardest hit month to date with 86 cases. Eight out of 10 cases required hospital treatment and two died.
Syphilis - Japan
Japan’s battle with the sexually transmitted infection (STI), syphilis continues. Through May 26, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases report 2472 syphilis cases, with a quarter of cases being reported in Tokyo. Osaka, Aichi and Kanagawa have also see high numbers of cases.
Polio - Pakistan
The Emergency Committee under the International Health Regulations is gravely concerned by the significant further increase in WPV1 cases globally in 2019, particularly in Pakistan where 15 cases have already been reported.
