Kala-azar Disease – India

The National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) of the Union Health Ministry reports 33 deaths due to visceral leishmaniasis (VL), or kala-azar in November, the most reported in seven years. Of the 33 fatalities, 24 were reported in Bihar state and seven in neighboring Jharkland. No deaths were reported earlier in 2021 from these two states.
