Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – Saudi Arabia
Between 5 and 7 February 2015, the IHR National Focal Point for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (SAU) notified WHO of 5 additional cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection. Cases are listed by date of reporting, with the most recent case listed first.
Contact tracing of household contacts and healthcare contacts is ongoing for these cases.
Measles – The Americas
Between 1 January and 8 February 2015, the IHR National Focal Points of Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States notified PAHO/WHO of a total of 147 cases of measles, most of which are related to a large multi-state outbreak in the United States.
Typhoid - India
Some 65 people in Jammu and Kashmir State have been stricken with typhoid fever in the Rajouri district with local officials blaming the outbreak on contaminated drinking water.
Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Rajouri, Dr, Mehmood Bajar said as of Saturday around 260 patients with Typhoid symptoms were registered in the hospital, with 65 being laboratory confirmed.
Worn out water pipes have likely led to the contamination of the drinking water supply and a boil water advisory has been issued.
