Copahue (Chile/Argentina): Intermittent ash emissions that resumed on 6 Oct, continue from the El Agrio crater and incandescence (from hot gasses) is visible at night. The ash/steam plume has been reaching heights of up to 1 km. SERNAGEOMIN keeps the alert level at yellow.

Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion): After a the eruption had intensified considerably during the past week, tremor suddenly dropped this morning at 08:02 local time and only showed sporadic pulses. The lava effusion seemed to have stopped as well. Aerial surveys this morning showed no more lava inside the vent. Whether this is a temporary pause or a rather sudden (but not uncommon) end of the eruption will be clearer in the near future. Up until yesterday (17 Oct), the eruption had been increasing, and generated again lava fountains from the main vent up to 40 m tall. The main vent itself had increased to reach approx. 100 m diameter, containing a lava lake which released large bubbles of gas (SO2), generating spectacular lava bubble ejections (images).
