Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – Saudi Arabia

From 1 June through 16 September 2018, the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) National Focal Point of Saudi Arabia reported 32 additional cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), including 10 deaths.

Dengue Fever - Mexico

Health authorities of the state of Chiapas, on the southernmost tip of Mexico, are reporting a large number of dengue fever cases, prompting a health alert in the area. The state Department of Public Health has revealed that 2,600 cases have been treated this year, 1,350 confirmed and 8 deaths have been recorded.

Measles - Brazil - Update

The Brazil Ministry of Health reported that as of October 1, there are 1,935 measles cases confirmed throughout the country. In Amazonas, there are 1,525, and in Roraima, 330. The outbreaks are all related to importation, as the genotype of the virus (D8) that is circulating in the country is the same that circulates in Venezuela, a country that has been facing an outbreak of the disease since 2017.

More Cholera Cases - Nigeria

The Yobe State Ministry of Health reported Oct 1 that 36 additional cholera cases have been reported from four local government areas (LGAs)–Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu and Fune. No new fatalities were reported.
