Anthrax - Namibia
Namibian agriculture and health ministries are reporting 115 suspected human anthrax cases in the northern regions of the country. The suspected outbreaks have occurred in the Kunene (104) and Zambezi (11) regions.
Anthrax contaminated meat is linked to the outbreak in Otjitanga village, Kunene region while tainted hippo appears linked to Katima Mulilo district, Zambezi region.
Monkeypox - Nigeria
In September, 15 new suspected monkeypox cases were reported from five States – Lagos (5), Rivers (2), Akwa Ibom (3), Zamfara (1), Delta (1), Imo (2) and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT(1). A total of 81 suspected cases have been reported so far in 2019.
Yemen - Cholera and Dengue Fever
The world’s largest cholera outbreak continues to be in Yemen. The cumulative number of suspected cholera cases reported in Yemen between October 2016 and August 2019 is 2,036,960, including 3,716 related deaths.
Officials are reporting a seasonal spike in dengue fever cases in Yemen in 2019. There have been 14,540 suspected cases of dengue fever, with 79 associated deaths recorded since the beginning of the year.
