India - The north India cold wave has claimed 12 more lives in the 24 hours leading to Wednesday evening, taking the death toll due to the extreme winter to 92 since December 1. Dense fog disrupted train services in several parts of India on Thursday, leading to the delay of 115 trains in Delhi.
Sri Lanka - More than 650,000 people have now been displaced after days of heavy rains triggered massive floods and landslides in Sri Lanka. Six days of heavy rains have affected the Northern, North Central and Eastern provinces of the Asian country. Irrigation tanks and hydropower reservoirs in the northern and central parts of the country have become flooded as a result of the downpour. So far, only 80,000 displaced people have been provided with accommodation in makeshift camps set up by the government.
