Wildfires - California, USA
Fire officials said Saturday that a blaze that has burned nearly 72 square miles of land, including on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, is 100 percent contained.
Officials say the fire is torching a large number of dead trees caused by California’s four-year drought and a dramatic rise in bark beetle infestation. Firefighters are hampered by steep, inaccessible terrain, 20 miles per hour winds and hot, dry weather.
By day’s end, Cal Fire said, 1,082 personnel and 20 crews had been dedicated to fighting the fire, as had 145 engines, 10 dozers, seven water tenders and 10 helicopters. No damage to structures or injuries had been reported as of Friday.
