India - Intense flooding in India’s remote northeast has entered a third week, leaving about 60 people dead and nearly 2 million others seeking shelter on higher ground. The disaster management authority in Gauhati, the capital of Assam state, says some 45 deaths have been reported across the state since mid-June. Most of the deaths have been due to drownings, electrocutions and mudslides. In the nearby state of Arunachal Pradesh, at least 14 people died Tuesday after a mudslide swept through a village.
Michigan, USA - Storms Tuesday night and Wednesday caused scattered power outages for thousands of homes and businesses in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. More storms moved through on Thursday. Flash flooding and heavy rains are affecting travel in parts of Michigan with a number of roads closed including Interstate 475.
New York, USA - Torrential rains are sweeping across Upstate NY. A flash flood warning has now been issued for Yates County and Buffalo. Up to 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen in one hour.
