Mauritania – Flooding has affected the Assaba and Hodh Ech Chargui regions of Mauritania after days of heavy rainfall. The region has seen heavy rainfall since 01 September, resulting in floods in Bassiknou, Adel Begrou, Amourj and Néma. According to the Mauritania Red Crescent Society, flooding damaged infrastructure including bridges, river embankments and water supply. It is estimated that around 10,000 people from 1,380 households are affected, with over 700 people homeless. Three fatalities were reported.

Nepal – Nepal‘s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reports that over 30 people are dead or missing after landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in Bahrabise municipality, Sindhupalchok District, overnight 12 to 13 September 2020. According to the latest reports, 11 people have lost their lives and 20 are still missing. Five people have been injured. NDRRMA said that 17 families have been affected and 11 houses buried or swept away.

DR Congo – At least 50 people are feared dead after the tragic collapse of a mine in Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). The incident occurred on 11 September in a mine near the town of Kamituga in South Kivu province in the east of the country. Such accidents are common in DR Congo’s mining industry, which has poor safety standards. However, media reports suggest flooding caused the mine to collapse. Local observers said torrential rainfall in the area caused a nearby river to break its banks, flooding several tunnels in the mine.

Tunisia – At least 6 people have died in floods after days of heavy rainfall in Tunisia. Heavy rainfall began around 05 September when Kairouan, capital of the Kairouan Governorate in the north of the country, recorded 89mm of rain in 24 hours. Institut national de la météorologie-Tunisie issued wanings for further heavy rainfall on 13 September.
