Wildfires

Wildfires – Oregon, USA

The Oregon Department of Corrections on Tuesday evacuated an estimated 1,400 inmates from three state prisons in Marion County in response to wildfires threatening the region.

Gov. Kate Brown has declared a wildfire emergency in Oregon, where fire in the Santiam Canyon forced evacuations and wildfires elsewhere sent thick smoke across western Oregon, from Mount Hood to Lincoln County.

According to the governor, the Santiam fire, along with the Lionshead fire, have burned an estimated 200,000 acres so far.

Wildfires – California, USA

Parts of Yosemite National Park are under advisory for a possible evacuation as the massive Creek Fire rages to the south.

The wildfire has burned nearly 135,000 acres in California so far with zero containment as of Monday evening, leading to numerous evacuations in rural portions of Fresno and Madera counties, including several outdoor recreation areas. In some cases, those trapped by the encroaching blaze have been airlifted out by National Guard helicopters.
