Ebola – DR Congo

In a follow-up on the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in Équateur Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), five additional cases have been reported, bringing the outbreak total to 23 (20 confirmed and three probable) with 13 deaths (case fatality ratio 57%).

Gastrointestinal Disease – Zimbabwe

Nine people in Zimbabwe’s second largest city Bulawayo have died form a gastrointestinal disease outbreak, while about a thousand have been infected with the water-borne disease. The local authority said in a statement on Sunday that one of the possible causes of the outbreak was water contamination due to obsolete infrastructure.
