Locals and tourists have been evacuated as fires continue to rage near the city of Corinth in the eastern Peloponnese for a second day. The city’s mayor says the flames are out of control and has called for a state of emergency to be declared in the region. More than 260 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze, with 10 helicopters and 10 planes assisting.

Firefighters battled forest fires in northeastern California on Wednesday amid red flag weather conditions.

The Gold Fire ballooned to nearly 22 square miles in Lassen County, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. The blaze south of the small Modoc County community of Adin was just 5% contained and some evacuations were in place.

In southern Lassen County, the Hog Fire grew to nearly 15 square miles but remained 5 miles west of Susanville.

The 46-square-mile Mineral Fire in western Fresno County was 75% contained.
