Anthrax – Namibia
During a National Cheetah Survey in Namibia, three collared cheetah males were found dead. Upon a ground survey it was found that they had died of anthrax. Nearby a zebra carcass infected with anthrax was found. This is the first confirmed anthrax infection in a wildlife species in Namibia.
Meningitis – DR Congo
In a follow-up on the meningococcal meningitis outbreak in Tshopo Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), as of September 21, 777 total suspected and confirmed cases have been reported including 167 deaths (CFR= 21.5%) in Panga, Banalia territory, in Kisangani district.
