Wildfires

Wildfires – Argentina

Wildfires that have already devastated 550,000 hectares (1.36 million acres) of forest and marshland in the northeastern Argentine province of Corrientes continue to rage out of control, the region’s top official said Friday. Months of high temperatures, low humidity and drought have created a “chaotic” situation.

Severe fires have killed countless protected animals of Argentina’s Ibera National Park, destroying the ecosystem of one of the world’s most extensive freshwater wetlands.

Wildfires – Alabama, USA

Alabama forestry officials say they battled over 200 wildfires in a six-day period this month. The blazes burned a combined 5,636 acres statewide.

According to the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC), from Thursday, February 10 to Wednesday, February 16, officials fought 205 wildfires from Madison County all the way to Mobile. The fires were fueled by dry, warm, and windy conditions across the state. The largest fire spanned 1 600 acres.
