Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – Saudi Arabia

Between 4 and 9 May, the National IHR Focal Point for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia notified WHO of 5 additional cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection.

Foot and Mouth Disease in Namibia

The ministry of agriculture, water and forestry has announced the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in northern Namibia on Saturday. The ministry said in a statement that an outbreak of foot-and- mouth disease was detected at Ohangwena region.

All movements of cattle across the Namibian/Angola border are suspended with immediate effect. The ministry further urged Namibian cattle farmers who have grazing camps for thousands of cattle inside Angola to strictly adhere to this directive.

Farmers were ordered not to move from and into the affected areas cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and wild animals, meat, milk, manure, hides, skins, bones, trophies and other potentially infectious material such as thatch grass, hay, straw and crop residues.
