Bangladesh - The floods triggered by heavy seasonal rains and onrush of water from hills across the Indian borders have now claimed at least 108 lives in Bangladesh, a disaster official said on Sunday. Since the first week of the last month, he said at least six million people have been affected by the floods while thousands of families were forced to flee home.
India - Heavy rain in neighbouring Maharashtra has resulted in swelling of the River Krishna triggering floods in several parts of north Karnataka, inundating vast tracts of agricultural land. As much as two lakh cusec of water was released from Narayanapura reservoir into River Krishna and more quantity would be released in the next 12 hours. According to local farmers out of the 23 villages on the banks of River Krishna, at least six would be affected with the release of water. Farmers are apprehensive about losing crops since paddy had been sown on thousands of acres on right and left banks of the Krishna.
