Measles - Dr Congo

The measles outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is the largest in the world and continues to trend and spread geographically. Through September 1 this year, officials have reported 179,477 suspected measles cases including 3,559 deaths (CFR 2.0%). Cases have been reported from more than 90 percent health zones across the country.

Chikungunya - Ethiopia

In a follow-up on the chikungunya outbreak in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, health officials continues to see an increasing trend in cases since the end of July. During the week ending September 8, officials saw an additional 7,264 new suspected cases from nine urban kebeles, or neighborhoods in Dire Dawa City Administration.

Brain-eating Amoeba - Pakistan

The the second time in two days, Karachi officials report a fatality due to the brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri. The 14th case occurred in a 26-year-old man from Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-27. He was was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital [AKUH] last week after complaining of fever, vomiting and headache.

Yellow Fever - Nigeria

In a follow-up on the yellow fever outbreak in Bauchi state, Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) now report that since the first confirmed case was reported on the 29th of August, 169 suspected and 15 laboratory confirmed cases by RT-PCR have been reported. Of this total, 23 people have died
