Eastern Equine Encephalitis - Massachusetts, USA

Massachusetts health officials reported the 11th human Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus infection in a man in his 70s from Worcester County. In addition, the health department was notified by a hospital of a death from EEE of an Essex County resident, the 4th of the year.

Diptheria - Philippines

Philippines health officials are urging parents to ensure that their children receive all the necessary vaccinations on a timely basis. This call comes after the DOH reported an increase in diphtheria this year to date. From January 2019 – September 2019, there have been 167 cases and 40 deaths.

Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – Saudi Arabia

From 1 through 31 August 2019, the National IHR Focal Point of Saudi Arabia reported 6 additional laboratory-confirmed cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) infection and one associated death.
