Spain - Spain’s forecaster has issued a red weather alert for the Costa Blanca around Benidorm and Alicante after Majorca was hit by severe rain, hail and a tornado. The adverse weather conditions that affected the north-east of Spain earlier this week moved on to the eastern region of the Balearic Islands, causing power problems and flash floods. The holiday hotspots of southern Spain are facing a washout as the severe weather which lashed the Balearic islands hits the mainland.

Niger - Deadly floods across Niger have left 57 people dead and affected more than 130,000 since they began in June, according to the latest government toll. Niger's government said in a statement late Tuesday the floods had resulted in 57 deaths and that 132,528 people had been affected. The rains had destroyed over 12,000 houses, killed more than 850 cattle and engulfed more than 2,000 hectares (nearly 5,000 acres) of crops.
