Bulgaria – Areas around Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, were hit by heavy rain, lightning strikes and strong winds during an overnight storm 06 to 07 July. Emergency services received 750 calls for assistance. One person was injured when a roof collapsed. Streets, metro stations, underpasses and buildings were all flooded. The Perlovska River broke its banks flooding roads in the city causing traffic problems and damaging vehicles. The Vladayska River also flooded the districts of Orlandovtsi and Benkovski.
India – Authorities in India report extreme rainfall in Gujarat. India Met Department (IMD) figures show Devbhumi Dwarka District recorded 434 mm of rain on 05 July, with 292 mm falling between 18:00 and 20:00. Seven National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Porbandar, Dwarka, Rajkot and Kutch. Local media report one person has died in flooding from the Khokhaddadi river near Rajkot City, while another died after a lightning strike in Surendranagar District. Around 100 people have been evacuated in Devbhumi Dwarka District. Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Jamnagar, where the Vartu river has risen rapidly. Two people trapped by flood water had to be rescued by NDRF teams. Heavy rain triggered a landslide in Kaikamba (formerly known as Gurupura Kaikamba) a suburban town of Mangalore in Karnataka on 05 July. India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said 3 houses were badly damaged and 2 people died.
Pakistan – Stormy weather and heavy rain caused havoc in the city of Karachi, Pakistan 06 to 07 July. At least 6 people have died in rain-related incidents. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported 43 mm of rain in Saddar, Karachi, on 07 July. PAF Faisal Base recorded 26mm of rain and Nazimabad 22mm. Local media reported 6 people died in 4 separate incidents after heavy rain caused buildings or walls to collapse.
