In August, two cases of tetanus among children were registered in the Altai Territory in southern Siberia, according to the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor. Their parents refused to vaccinate against this disease.
Leptospirosis – India
Health officials in the heavily populated Maharashtra state, India, are reporting 184 cases to date this year.
Plague – USA
New Mexico state health officials reported the first human case of bubonic plague in the state this year Friday. The patient – a resident of Torrance County – is being treated in a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
