In the Eastern Pacific Ocean: Hurricane 12e (Linda), located approximately 912 nm south-southwest of San Diego, is tracking west-southwestward at 09 knots.

In the northwestern Pacific Ocean: Tropical depression 16w (Sixteen), located approximately 286 nm east of Andersen AFB, is tracking westward at 16 knots.

Colombia – Three people have died in recent floods in Meta Department, Colombia, while Civil Defence reported flooding and landslides in 7 departments across the country over the last 2 weeks. Flooding has affected the municipalities of El Dorado, Mapiripán, Villavicencio and Acacías in Meta Department from 10 August 2021. Civil Defence said 3 people lost their lives in floods in Acacías, while around 80 people were affected in Mapiripán. The last 2 weeks has seen flooding or landslides in 7 departments across the country, affecting around 5,000 people.

Somalia – Humanitarian organisations in Somalia report that flooding along the Shabelle River has forced thousands of families from their homes. Two young children reportedly died in the floods.

Japan – Three people died and dozens were rescued after torrential rain in Japan caused further flooding and mudslides on 15 August 2021. Heavy rain has been falling in the country since late last week. As much as 743.0 mm of rain fell in 48 hours in areas near the city of Unzen in Nagasaki prefecture, where a landslide struck early on 13 August. Two houses collapsed, burying 4 residents. As of 13 August, 1 fatality was reported and 2 people were missing and 1 seriously injured. On 15 August another deadly mudslide struck, burying eight people in a house in Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture. Three people died, 2 were injured and 3 others rescued.

Arizona, USA – Officials in Gila Bend, Arizona, USA, declared a state of emergency after flash floods caused 2 fatalities and severe damage on 14 August 2021. Monsoon rains once again triggered flash flooding in Arizona, with the town of Gila Bend in Maricopa County the worst affected. The town is situated about 50 miles / 80 km southwest of Phoenix, Arizona.

Turkey – The death toll from the catastrophic floods in the Black Sea Region of Turkey has reached 59 according to disaster authorities in the country. Torrential rain of more than 300mm in 24 hours hammered the provinces of Bartin, Kastamonu and Sinop in the Black Sea Region of northern Turkey on 11 August. The ensuing flooding and mudslides destroyed homes, roads, and 5 bridges. Power, water and telecommunications infrastructure were also damaged. Twenty-five villages remain without power in Kastamonu and 56 villages in Sinop.
