Sudan – The United Nations reports that flooding in Sudan has affected over 60,000 people across 12 states. Furthermore, 3,848 houses have been destroyed and 8,514 damaged. A total of 43 people have lost their lives as a result of heavy rains and flooding. The Nile river is above the danger mark in several locations in the country. As of 22 August, the river stood at 16.12 metres at Atbara in River Nile State. The danger mark here is 15.78 metres.
USA – Tropical Storm Henri made landfall near Westerly, Rhode Island USA on 22 August 2021. The storm brought heavy rainfall to the region before landfall. A record 1.94 inches (49.28 mm) of rain fell in Central Park, New York in 1 hour late on 21 August 2021. Henri also brought strong winds and storm surge. At one point more than 120,000 people were without power across the Northeast. Some flights and trains were suspended temporarily.
