Chikungunya – Ethiopia
On 17 January 2022, a chikungunya outbreak was confirmed in Dolo ado district of Liben zone, Somali region. A total of 311 suspected cases are reported, of which three cases were confirmed by PCR at Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) laboratory. No deaths were reported.
Legionnaires Disease – California, USA
Public Health is investigating a cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in Palm Springs, Palm Desert and some surrounding communities stretching back months. Health officials are aware of 20 confirmed cases of which 14 individuals were hospitalized. Two deaths were reported.
Yellow Fever – Kenya
In a follow-up on the yellow fever outbreak in Kenya, a yellow fever outbreak was declared on March 4 by Kenyan authorities in Isiolo County, approximately 270 km north of the capital city of Nairobi. Since January 12, suspected yellow fever cases have been reported from eight villages within three sub-counties in Kenya. As of 10 March 2022, there are a total of 15 suspect yellow fever cases (including four deaths) reported.
